TIP FOR SUCCESS: Looking Back Helps Us to Look Forward

What was the purpose of conducting the evaluation? Was it to determine if the program is implemented as planned or are you determining if specific problems are addressed? There can be one or several reasons for conducting an evaluation. No matter the purpose(s), as you write the report, continually refer to the purpose of the evaluation because it is easy to go astray.

Your purpose is your compass during your journey forward. It helps you stay on track as you write and address "the why.” Remember that evaluations are a continual process. Upon the completion of your hard work, you look back at your purpose(s), findings, anticipated changes in factors that could impact your program, then you determine your next steps.

Among the many steps to follow your evaluation report, one is the beginning of the new evaluation process. Use the information from your past evaluation to refine and develop the new compass that will help guide you along your next journey.

Looking back helps us to look forward.
